Posterior Hip Dislocation

How to reduce a posterior hip dislocation?

The most common method is the Allis Maneuver:
  • Procedural Sedation
  • Assistant stabilizes pelvis by pushing down on anterior superior iliac spines (push down onto bed)
  • Flex the knee and hip 90 degrees
  • Provide axial traction on flexed thigh inferiorly (best done with second assistant)
  • Rotate femur laterally, then medially, until hip reduces
