Cook County Trauma Unit enrolls another patient in the Synapse Head Injury Trial

Congratulations to Dr. Emily Singer who identified another patient for the Synapse Trial.

Don't forget - if you have a patient with a blunt head injury, GCS of 8 or less, and an identifiable bleed on their head CT, they can be enrolled in the Synapse Trial.

The Synapse trial compares a 5 day infusion of progesterone to placebo and looks at the patient's neurological outcome.  There is preliminary evidence that progesterone may help minimize the secondary injury following severe head trauma.

Cook County Trauma Unit is just one of several international centers studying this drug.  To date, over 1000 patients have been enrolled with very few adverse events.
