Play It Safe - Cook County

Cook County Trauma Unit held its first annual Play It Safe fair today.  This event was aimed at children and their parents in an attempt to teach injury prevention.  Even though the temperature was a little chilly, we seemed to have a good turnout.

Some of the information stations included:

Our anesthesia colleagues Keith Marino, Phyllis Sit and her son, handed out first aid items

Chairman of Pediatrics David Soglin gave information about bicycle helmets

Trauma Nurse Karin Thomas gave information about online safety

Children of all ages learned about:

Ollie the bomb sniffing dog posed with Trauma Surgeon Fred Starr and his family

Trauma Fellow Matt Kaminsky and his boys explored a fire truck

Trauma Surgeon Andrew Dennis and Residents Erica Carlisle and Joe Broucek played with the SWAT gear

There were visits to the helicopter

And some other fun activities for the children:

Learning about driving safety

Decorating pumpkins

And face painting
