These are questions that we ask all of our patients in an attempt to determine their risk for future trauma based on current situation and behavior.
CAGE score is a screen to determine the patient's willingness to accept treatment for Alcohol and Drug dependance -
C - do you think you should Cut down?
A - do you get Annoyed when someone questions your drinking/drug use?
G - do you feel Guilty about your drinking/drug use?
E - do you need an Eyeopener?
The more questions the patient answers "Yes" to, the more likely they are to admit they have a problem and accept treatment.
ABUSE questions relate to domestic violence and are asked of all patients regardless of gender or presenting complaint.
1. Has your partner hit you or threatened to hurt you?
2. Has your partner forced you to have sex against your will?
3. Are you afraid to go home?
An affirmative answer to any of the above should prompt a call to the domestic violence team, or the social worker on call.
